NCAA Week 14 and NFL Week 13

I went 4-3 last week in my picks bringing my record to 35-31-3 for the football season.

Championship weekend is upon us for most conferences. I do not like many of the games. I will start with the final week of the regular season in the Big 12.

Iowa State (+11) visits the little apple, Manhattan,KS. I am a huge Iowa St. fan and I have to admit, I cannot stand Kansas St. I felt Bill Snyder used to run up the score on Dan McCarney. KSU has won the last 2 by a combined 8 points. I think Paul Rhoads not only covers this spread but wins outright. Take the Cyclones!

Game 2: Pitt hosts Syracuse (+10.5) Syracuse on the road with a bad coach is not a good combination. Pitt wins this one and covers. the final score ends up being something like 37-17 Pitt.

Game 3: West Virginia (-1) visits South Florida in essentially a pick 'em game. Well guess what, I pick West Virginia.

Game 4: San Diego St (-7.5) is at home against Fresno St. Fresno has not had a good year and they are going to end with a huge loss. Take SDSU.

Quick recap: ISU +11, Pitt -10.5, West Virginia -1 and SDSU -7.5

To the NFL
Oakland is +3 on the road @ Miami, I think Carson Palmer throws for 3 scores and Michael Bush runs for one. Take the Raiders.

Once again I find it hard to believe that Minnesota is favored over anyone. Can they stop Tebow mania? Take the Broncos +1.

I was burned last week with Detroit and an over, guess what, I am going for it again. The O/U between Detroit and New Orleans is 54.5. New Orleans may get that themselves! Take the over.

Quick recap Oakland +3, Denver +1 and the over in the Detroit vs. New Orleans game.

NCAA Football Week 13 and NFL Week 14

2-3 last week. I am at 31-28-3 overall. If anyone saw my preseason predictions I had ISU beating #3 OSU 34-31. I suppose I will settle for Iowa State beating #2 Oklahoma State 37-31. I will try and get better going forward. :)

Enough with giving myself the pat on the back, I need to improve my picks. There are several key and intersting matchups this week with HUGE implications for not only bowl selections but for a possible BCS Championship!

Game 1 Houston -3 @ Tulsa. Houston needs this to keep any hopes of a BCS bid alive. I think they get it done. I expect a lot points in this game.

Game 2 Cincinnati (-2.5) visits Syracuse. There are QB issues with Cincy but i think they pull this one out. There are a lot of athletes on this Cincy team and I do not think the coaching is that great at Syracuse.

Game 3 Clemson (+4.5) visits South Carolina. Clemson was humiliated last week, coming into a rivalry and probably looking ahead to this game. I expect Clemson to come out swinging and win this game outright. Take Clemson.

Game 4 Tennessee (-8) is looking to get bowl eligible against a struggling Kentucky team. Tenn finishes the season strong and makes it into a bowl game. Take Tenn and don't look back.

Game 5 Stanford (-7) hosts Notre Dame. Stanford feels like they can back door into the national championship game. I think Andrew Luck wants to get back into the Heisman race. Stanford will lay the wood to the Golden Domers. Stanford in this one.

Quick college recap, take Houston -3, Cincy -2.5, Clemson +4.5, Tenn -8 and Stanford -7.

To the NFL

Green Bay is at Detroit for the annual Thanksgiving Day game. I think the Over/Under is the play in this one. I am taking the over of 55.5. There will be a lot of points scored in this game. Take the Over!

Carolina -3 is on the road at Indianapolis. I think Indy keeps their perfect season alive. Cam Newton may throw for 3oo and run for 75 in this game. Take the Panthers.

Take the Over in the Green Bay vs. Detroit and Carolina -3 on the road.

NCAA football Week 12 and NFL week 11

I was atrocious last week with a 1-4 record, 29-25-3 is my season total. There is work to do this week so I better make it good!

There are a few games I like and including one NCAA basketball game. Let's start with that. I will keep a separate tabulation of my basketball results, I generally do not pick basketball games since they are so up/down via emotion.

The NCAA basketball game will be in Des Moines, IA on 11-15-11 at the Knapp Center. Iowa State (-3.5) visits the Drake Bulldogs. Drake is bad and coach Mark Phelps will be on the hot seat before conference play even starts. Take ISU, they win this game going away.

Onto NCAA football...We are staying local again, this time in Ames, IA. Iowa State +26.5 comes off a bye week and Okie St. comes off of a woodshed beating of Texas Tech. I have ISU's record correct from my preseason prediction so far. From my prediction you will see I have ISU picked to win this game. A lot will have to go right but I think ISU covers the 26.5. Take the 'Clones at home!

Game 2 Another local team, Iowa travels to Purdue. Iowa is favored (-2.5). Starting QB James Vandenberg has not won a single road game in his career, I think that continues. Take Purdue +2.5.

Game 3 Georgia Tech (-10) visits Duke. GA Tech is a tough team to prepare for especially when you are Duke. Take Tech to cover and probably win by 20.

Quick recap, take ISU +26.5, Purdue +2.5 and Georgia Tech -10.

NFL Miami is -2 vs. Buffalo. Time to break up the Dolphins after their 2 game winning streak. The streak ends, Buffalo wins this and Fred Jackson has a HUGE game.

Minnesota is -1.5 at home against Oakland. I do not know how Minnesota can be favored. Take Oakland and watch Carson Palmer throw all over the Metrodome.

Quick recap take Buffalo +2 and Oakland +1.5.

Legalized sports betting and online gaming

The people of New Jersey voted themselves the right to bet on sports as long as the federal government lifts the ban. I think it is a step in the right direction in allowing personal freedoms to triumph in the US.

In my homestate of Iowa we are seeing a movement which would allow betting on horses at Prairie Meadows which is near Des Moines via the internet. Along with this a study is going to be conducted that would allow intrastate poker. Again, this is a win for personal freedoms and the 98% of responsible players out there. Here is a link to the story.

NCAA Football week 11 & NFL week 10 picks ATS

I went 4-4 last week against the spread, 28-21-3 is now my overall record.
Not too many games stick out to me this week so let's get them all correct.

On my soapbox real quick. Joe Paterno must go. Pedophiles and child abuse disgust me. He Joe done the right thing many other boys would not have gone through the nightmares they had to live through. Shame on Joe and shame on Penn State.

Game 1: Ohio (-5) visits Central Michigan. Ohio can put themselves in a great spot to win the Eastern division of the MAC. I think they put the hurt on Central Michigan.

Game 2: Baylor travels to Kansas to face the lowly Jayhawks (+19.5). The weather should be real nice, this will allow the Bears to work over the Jayhawks and keep their season spiraling down. Turner Gill has one less game left in his career in Lawrence, KS. Gill will be fired at the end of the season even though this means KU will be paying 3, yes 3 football coaches next season. Mangino, Gill and the new coach. Take the Bears.

Game 3: Louisiana Tech visits the Ole Miss Rebels (+2). Nutt is out at Ole Miss, I think the team rises up to get a win for him. An SEC team at home is getting points against a WAC team that is not even leading their conference. Take the home dog, the Rebels get the win.

Quick recap, take Ohio -5, Baylor -19.5 and Mississippi +2.

To the NFL...
Washington heads to Miami which is favored after getting their first win last week against KC. Washington comes back to life in this one. Take Washington +3.5 in this game.

Chicago (-3) is favored at home against Detroit. Chicago is coming off a big win on Sunday night, I think they come back down to earth. Take Detroit to win this outright.

Quick recap: Take Washington +3.5 and Detroit +3.

NCAA Football week 10 and NFL Week 9

I must be going through a mid-year slump...I was 2-2 last week ATS bringing my overall record to 24-17-3, I must get better!

There are a lot of good games for the bettors out there. If you are going to Las Vegas, I think you can do some damage to the sports books. Remember I use the MGM Grand lines from vegasinsiders.com. The link can be found on the right hand side of my blog.

Game 1: I am staying local with this first pick. To Ames,IA we go. The lowly Kansas Jayhawks visit Iowa St (-14.5). ISU picked up a huge win last week against Texas Tech, this is normally a let down spot for a team. ISU has a bye week following this game so they will give their all. I expect Iowa St to cover and win by a score of 38-14.

Game 2: Mizzou travels to Baylor (-2). Mizzou plays in Texas for the second week in a row and are coming off a huge win at A&M. That is a lot of emotion and a lot of travel in 7 days. This is gut check time for Baylor, I believe Baylor wins, pulling away in the 4th quarter. This has nothing to do with my animosity towards Mizzou for their conference realignment garbage. They are making this much worse. I do want to hear Baylor chant "Big 12" after they take care of Mizzou. Screw the SEC!

Game 3: Cincinnati goes to Pitt (-2). Cincy is very athletic and I believe they will just overwhelm Pitt in this game. Pitt can be scary on offense so this could be a high scoring game. Take Cincy -2.

Game 4: Another local game in Iowa City. Talk about gut check time! Iowa is coming off of a horrible loss at Minnesota. Iowa is +4 right now, I do not think there is anyway they stop Michigan. Take the Wolverines to win in what could be Iowa's largest setback in a few seasons.

Game 5: Syracuse is +2 at UCONN. Wrong team is favored, Syracuse wins this game outright.

Game 6: Stanford is -21 @ Oregon St. I think Stanford will blow through the Beavers. This is a classic letdown situation for Stanford but I think OSU is that bad that it will not matter.

To the NFL.
Tebowing heads to Oakland where they are +7.5, both teams have QB issues but Oakland blows the doors off of Denver and I think signals the near end to the Tebow era.

Atlanta is -7 @ Indianapolis, take the Falcons, they make themselves right in this game.

Quick summary for College: Take Iowa State -14.5, Baylor -2, Cincinnati -2 Michigan -4, Syracuse +2 and Stanford -21.

NFL: Take Oakland -7.5 and Atlanta -7.
